Marni collaborated with her sister and writer A.C. O'Dell on this feminist art show. A.C. crafted 18 poems to act as companion pieces to each watercolor painting. Her complete collection of poetry can be purchased as a chapbook through Amazon.
The end result of this collaboration was a modern narrative on feminism: the way women strive to overcome stereotypes at home and in the workplace, as well as combat a common people-pleasing nature.
Marni's use of bright colors offsets the more serious message, and the old-fashioned motifs, hairstyles, and clothing shines light on the fact that many of the systems forced upon women 50 years ago are still at large today.
You'll see snakes throughout the various pieces; this represents the serpent from the Bible's Garden of Eden, and its eternal dance with the original woman, Eve.
