I had the toughest time getting my tomatoes to grow well this year. I'm definitely a newbie garener and I'm learning all the time! Now I know what to do for next season, to encourage a bigger yield and healthier plants; but for now, I'm glad that I can grab the green ones before the first frost, and let them ripen in paper bags with apples. What a great tip! If you have too many green tomatoes that aren't maturing on the vine, pluck them - if they won't grow any larger - and ripen them with either a banana or an apple in a brown bag. The gas within these fruit, ethylene, will make the tomatoes turn red, with sacrificing their texture or taste.
