Inktober 2017 pt. 1
If you've been following along on my Instagram page, you'll know that I'm not a huge fan of ink. And yet, that's all that I've been posting for the last two weeks...????
It's INKTOBER! That once-a-year art challenge that's making waves on our social networks. Almost every artist I know is either involved, or, like myself, has attempted, failed, and given up. But not this year!
I tried for the last two years to make achieve this challenge. I bought myself a pen and nibs, and several inks, so I could enjoy this new medium and embrace it for everything it is! However, for the last two years, I either got bummed out that what I was making looked like poo, or I got distracted and didn't complete the month. (I think both situations happened both years.)
I say again: BUT NOT THIS YEAR! I'm happy to announce that I've kept up to date, and I've been enjoying the process. I'm still not in love with ink. My idea of proper inking is with a pen and nib, but my favorite way to do it, is with a paintbrush, like watercolor. (See Day 10 and Day 14 for my favorite inking style!) I "cheated" with my brushes for a couple of days, but overall, I've been able to stick with my plan.
It's nature themed this year!
But how have I not gotten distracted this year?
I'll let you in on a little secret: I'm usually out and about on weekends, so I'll do a few days' work in one. That way, I can keep posting every day, but I don't have to be glued to my desk. Maybe that's cheating, too? But if I know one thing about myself, it's that I need to take breaks on weekends!
Here are the ink drawings I've created so far:
