Art Trade

I was so happy to find out that one of my favorite artists, Allie Bartlett, who specialises in paper cut art, would be willing to do an art trade! At first I offered to purchase the commission, but since we follow each other on Instagram, I that I would at least ask...

I love what we ended up trading! She requested a swallow, with wild roses and lupins. After a quick search to figure out what the heck lupins are (a beautiful stalk-like flower, actually) I got to work.

Unfortunately, she caught me at a moment when I had run out of my favorite watercolor paper. In retrospect, I shouldn't have jumped to try a new type of paper, because the Arches hot-pressed looked AWFUL with what I was trying to do. Allie waited patiently until I had the paper I usually use (Arches rough) so I could complete the project.

I also didn't factor in how slow the mail is from Virginia to Nova Scotia. I'm sorry it took so long to get to you, Allie!

But I am so so so over-the-moon happy with what I received. A beautiful little cut paper "I love you" sign of a hand, with some peonies for embellishment.

It's hanging in my kitchen, right next to my calendar. Every morning, I wake up to start some tea, and I smile at my lovely little original.
