Another "Longing for America" post...
I've been interested in Georgia O'Keefe's work lately. I'm not much of an abstract art lover (although I'm well able to appreciate it.) I typically don't gravitate towards making that myself. But her western scenes, her animals skulls in the sky, her vivid colors - entrancing. I also like the woman she seemed to be: strong, independent, determined, always moving forward. She also had a sense of peace about who she was. She liked herself. That is something terribly difficult to find these days.
With her influence and my homesickness for America, I painted some cow, deer, and sheep skulls with flowers. Something pretty and something dead. I think it makes a pleasant balance. Nothing too saccharine made anybody feel right.
