This series about American folktales and myths was a direct response to interactions with Marni's international friends. Through conversation, she was told that the US doesn’t have deep history, there are no traditions, and barely any culture. This was Marni's motivation in finding old stories that are unique to America - a mix of Native American lore and influences from African, French, German, Spanish, Mexican, and Asian cultures. The US is a country made up of pieces of other countries. This doesn’t negate the culture; rather, it is richer, especially when the timen is take to list to other’s stories.
Marni commissioned original poetry from writer A.C. O’Dell to bring this series into our 21st Century reality. You can find more of her work at her website acodell.weebly.com or on Instagram @acodell.writer
